Make the best out of your appointment - part 1.

Dear lovely readers,

In this post, I would like to share how I request a massage as a client!

Since I started to be a practitioner, I noticed that it is easy for us to get trapped in being traditional and reserved rather than being creative and adventurous when asking for a massage – in holistic terms.

Step 1

Personally, I would observe how I feel now – not reflect on how exhausted or crunchy I was when booking the appointment.

This first step is the best to get the most out of the massage! Because you might not feel as tired after a good night’s sleep, and perhaps something happened on the way to the appointment that made you “anxious” instead, and you find your breaths are quickened…etc.

That is the background story that I would be listening to happily because it gives me a chance to add something just a little more special to your hour on the table!

Step 2

I usually request the other therapist to be “very specific”, not a “whole body massage”. Of course, this is the safest option if there really isn’t anything that pops out.

You’d be amazed how “little” can be done within 1 hour, but still so very effective! For example, when I feel drained, I like having the front of my upper body worked on for at least half of the session: Chest, neck, ribs, arms, hands and belly.

There are actually a lot of options in these areas that therapists can explore in detail. We have bones, muscles and skins to feel the connection; they all receive massages and have the brains interpret the touch in very different (but positive) ways.

Step 3

Finish and rest. Yes – After a top-notch massage, I always feel floating and sleepy for the rest of the day. So I love going home and have a hot bath to finish. But this depends on each individual, so what works for me may not apply to you!

Thank you for reading the article. I hope it gives you some new thoughts on receiving massages :)

Warm wishes,
